1977.
Not enough exploratory jams, only one China/Rider.
I personally don't care for the Terrapin songs.
The sound was "too perfect", I prefer it to be a little more unpredictable.

I agree...I never saw the attraction for TStation...I don't mind Hunter singing it, but it just really never connected for me.

I always assumed I was in a HUGE minority in this respect, so I don't think I have ever mentioned it here (yikes...don't be too hard on me folks...ahem...should rephrase that I suppose).

Of course, my era and all means I don't spend much time there nowadays, but back when I was going I just never got it...really can't put it into words...

And to answer the question for myself, it's easy: 77. Since I am more or less uninterested in the post 71 yrs, it is easy to select this one out of all the ones, since it and maybe 72 & 73 get the most PR, but I can see it for the earlier ones but not 77.

Of course, I do know I am in the minority for that one (ie, not appreciating 77).

I like Terrapin but it should be shorter because it was so repetitive because they didn't explore.

I think 70 and 71 tie for the most over-rated. They had regular brilliance but mostly it's short and limited compare to the energy of 68-69 and the exploration and range of 72-74.

Interesting...I think they did more in 70 than 69...71 maybe I can see a small aspect of your take...very interesting.

Wake me up when the teacher axes which was the most overrated decade(s). Methinks I might be able to answer that with a degree of sincerity, just before the shooting starts.

Agree on Terrapin. Great studio track, but way to precise and formulated for a great live jam tune. More like a fine piece of classical music. And as the years wore on, Jerry's voice just couldn't keep up with the range required. Never a particular fave of mine.

I'm with you, WT.
Although I don't limit myself to the pre-72 era.I'll go thru 1974.
